Karim Elgendy

Urban Sustainability and Climate Expert, Chatham House, Associate Fellow, Carboun Institute, Executive Director

Karim Elgendy is a climate, energy, and sustainability expert based in London. He is the Director of Carboun Institute, the first think tank focused on climate and energy in the Middle East and N Africa. A visiting lecturer at the University of Cambridge and Associate Fellow at the Middle East Institute in D.C., his work focuses on the political economy of climate change, energy transitions, and sustainable development in the MENA region. He advises governments and diplomatic agencies on climate policy, multilateral negotiations, and capacity-building initiatives. He has published extensively on climate action, energy policy, and sustainable cities. He is regularly interviewed by media outlets, including NYT, WP, FT, BBC, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, and CNN. He has participated in over 100 panels, roundtables, and conferences across Europe, North America, and the MENA region, including at the UN Climate Change Conferences.
