AIANY Exhibition
CARRRE member firm, ACHA, is designing and curating an exhibition at the Center for Architecture in NYC (AIANY) around collective initiatives and resiliency following Türkiye’s 2023 earthquakes. It is scheduled to run for five months from May 2027 to October 2027. Another CARRRE member firm, Eken Design, is the graphic designer for this exhibition.
The exhibition will show the work of the communities who are innovating and collaborating on the ground, who collectively build resiliency in their efforts to heal, develop work, retain memories, preserve cultural heritage, restore the craft and arts of the region, and reinvent the physical and intangible spaces that were lost and that sustain these communities. It will also consider the social and historical context in which these recovery efforts are navigating, and strive to highlight the “other fault lines” which contribute to the challenges faced by those in the region and those involved in this work.
It is the hope that the work of these communities may be seen as examples for others to follow (or learn from), and also to share approaches to challenges that occur after environmental devastation. The exhibition will illustrate responses to challenges that are faced in the early stages following such a disaster (such as access to water, food, sanitation, and information) as well as the ongoing challenges, such as the prolongation of temporary housing crises, economic struggles caused by job losses, the absence of social and psychosocial support mechanisms, the lack of public spaces to gather and network, and uncertainty in long-term reconstruction efforts.
